The performance will be based on the works of the legendary
German playwright Heiner Müller - “Hamletmachine”,
“Quartet” - as well as his letters and
diaries. Unfortunately, they are not yet known in Russia, in
spite of the fact that it has been thirty five years since they
were written and got their triumphal success worldwide.
«It can be said that the basic element of theatre, as well as drama, is transformation, death being the final transformation. The only thing that can unite the audience, in which the audience can be united, is fear of death, everyone has it. It is a uniting factor. The rest is about different interests, needs, desires, ideas. Thus theatre is always based on symbolic death”.
From conversation between Heiner Müller and Alexander Kluge, 1995.
The performance will be based on the works of the legendary German playwright Heiner Müller - “Hamletmachine”, “Quartet” - as well as his letters and diaries. Unfortunately, they are not yet known in Russia, but Gogol-Center is going to fix it.
The «MachineMüller» production will talk of the world catastrophe. Of human body. Of theatre. Of the inevitability of love.
The premiere occurred on 4 March 2016.
